Question
How to disable SSH and Telnet functions on VIVOTEK Smart Managed switches
Answer
VIVOTEK Smart Managed switches have the capability to support Telnet or SSH connections for console control. While this feature can be convenient for certain configurations, some users may wish to disable it to prevent unwanted access. If you're looking to do so, please follow the steps outlined below:
Step 1. Log into the Switch via it's IP address through its web-based interface and use your username and password to log in to the switch's management interface.
Note: The default login password for VIVOTEK Smart Managed switches is as follows:
- Username: admin
- Password: admin
But if the default password was change, be sure to use the new password for access.
Step 2. The interface may vary slightly depending on the switch model, but the primary configuration should be as follows:
Interface A: Go to the Switch tab > Security > Management > Auth Method to check the protocol configurations.
Interface B: Go to Configuration > Security > Switch > Auth method to check the protocol configurations.
Change the desired method for each protocol to "no" to disable it. Once you perform the changes, click on the "Apply" button to save the configuration.
Step 4. A warning message will appear, indicating that the method will be disabled. Simply click on the "Ok" button to finalize the configuration.
Now the switch will block any incoming login requests using SSH and Telnet protocol. You can double check this by using any console interface and try connecting using either SSH or Telnet:
