Question
How do I configure a Gmail Server for VSS SMTP?
Answer
VSS provides SMTP settings to configure a mail server through which system alarms or notifications can be sent to recipients. To configure SMTP in VSS, please follow the steps below.
(Gmail is used as an example.)
Part 1. Configure Your Google Account
If you are using Gmail as the SMTP server, you must enable 2-Step Verification and generate an App password for VSS.
Step 1. Log into your Google account, go to Security & sign-in, and activate 2-step verification.
Step 2. After enabling 2-Step Verification, go to App passwords.
Step 3. Create a name (for example: VIVOTEK VSS SMTP) and click Create.
Step 4. Copy the 16-character password shown in the box. You will use this password in the VSS SMTP settings.
Part 2. Configure SMTP in VSS
Step 1. Open VSS and log in, then go to the Settings page.
Step 2. Navigate to SMTP.
Step 3. Click Add to create a new SMTP server.
Step 4. Enter the following information and click Add.
- SMTP server: smtp.gmail.com
- Server port: 587
- Enable: Authorization and TLS
- Username: Your Gmail account
- Password: The 16-character app password generated earlier
After the SMTP server is configured correctly, notifications will be sent to the recipients defined in the alarm action settings. A test email will be sent during the alarm configuration process to confirm that the SMTP settings are working properly.
