Question
What to do when see the error message: "Controller cache discarded due to memory/battery problems" from MegaRAID Storage Manager on Windows-based NVRs of NR-V1 or NR-V2 series?
NR-V1 series: NR9581, NR9681, NR9682, NR9782
NR-V2 series: NR9581-V2, NR9681-V2, NR9682-V2, NR9782-V2
Answer
"Controller cache discarded due to memory/battery problems" is an notification message.
When configuring the RAID write policy, if the Write policy is set to "Always Write Back" or "Write Back", the RAID card will detect the presence of a battery. Since no battery is installed on RAID card, the message will pop up.
This message will not affect the system operation. So, no worry about it and can ignore it when the VAST recording works normally.
If you wish to prevent this notification from reappearing again, there are two methods.
One is to change the Write policy to "Write Through" (please note that this setting places a heavier burden on the hard drive).
It is recommended to use the second method by the following steps to transfer the Severity of Event ID 10 to Information.
- Enter RAID Config in the Control center.
- Click Tools > Monitor Configure Alerts.
- Enter Alert Settings page > Click "Change Individual Events..." button.
- Click Event ID 10 > Change the Severity of Event ID 10 to Information > Click OK
If you are using NR-v3 models, because the RAID management software is different, please refer to the below article to change the write policy.
