License Plans and Status Overview
What is the default license plan for a newly created VORTEX organization?
All newly created organizations automatically apply the xLite plan with basic functions only.
How does an organization upgrade from xLite to xStd/xPro?
The system upgrades the organization to xStd/xPro when any device or VORTEX Connect channel activates with an xStd/xPro license, or when a bundle licensed VORTEX camera is added.
What triggers the organization to enter Grace or Overdue status?
If any device(s) or VORTEX camera in an xStd/xPro organization is unlicensed or expired, the entire organization enters Grace or Overdue.
If one camera main service license expires, will it affect the entire organization?
Yes, VORTEX License Control is organization-based, meaning if even one camera’s license expires or is unlicensed, the entire organization will enter Grace Period, and later the Renewal Overdue phase if license issues not resolved.
Can xLite, xStd, and xPro be mixed within the same organization?
No. An organization can only operate under one plan (free - xLite or paid- xStd/Pro). If the organization is on xLite, all devices must follow the free plan. If upgraded to xStd or xPro, then all devices must have active paid licenses.
License Phases and Functional Limitations
What are the fixed license phases and their durations?
Grace is 1–30 days after main service license expiration or when an unlicensed device is added. Overdue is 31–60 days after license expiration or when an unlicensed device is added.
What are the limitations during the Grace Period?
Core functions of the Main Service remain operational during the 30-day Grace Period.
Add-on services (Cloud Backup, Network Speaker, Advanced AI) remain functional during the Grace Period as long as their own licenses are still valid.
Add-on licenses will stop service immediately in the following cases:
When the add-on license itself expires.
When the Main Service enters the Overdue period, even if the add-on license has not yet expired.
What are the limitations during the Overdue Period?
Once the organization enters the Overdue Period:
Cloud upload, events, and AI Hub services stop.
Most Main Service functions (Live View, Event, AI Hub, Alarm, and video search functions such as Profile Search or Archive) will be disabled.
All Add-on services stop regardless of their own license status.
SD card recording continues as a fallback for local storage.
Do add-on licenses (e.g., Cloud Backup) have a Grace period?
No. Add-on licenses immediately stop service upon expiration; there is no 30-day grace.
License Information Display and Operations
How will users know if there’s a license issue that needs action?
VORTEX displays a banner starting 30 days before any camera license expiration. Also, visual indicators will be appeared on the License Information page. Those remainder users to take actions and the related page includes a Contact Reseller link to help users connect with their SI or guide users to the process.
What license information can End-Users see in the portal?
The End-user portal shows license type, quantity, and status. End-Users will see the license warning and reminding UI banner on the portal/app. The expiration date is not displayed.
What license information do System Integrators (SI) receive?
SIs will receive monthly emails with all the license details of their managed organizations starting from the Notice phase. SIs can check the license status, including the expiration date, via the Reseller Portal.
Can End-Users renew, extend, or upgrade licenses directly?
No. All renewals, extensions, and upgrades must be handled via the System Integrator (SI). The SI must perform these operations via the Reseller Portal.
Is SI binding required for license operations?
Yes. If no SI is bound, End-users cannot perform license operations.
How can an End-User bind an SI?
End-users can bind an SI via the end-user portal → System → Reseller Management.
Migration Rules for Existing Organizations (Effective after Nov 3)
How will existing organizations be converted after Nov 3?
If the organization meets the xLite criteria (channels <128, users <10, and sites <10), no devices and channels are with licenses, the organization will automatically convert to xLite. And there will be no reminders or grace.
If the organization meets the xStd/xPro criteria (with licensed devices or channels, not matter the license is expire or not), it will automatically convert to xStd/xPro. If there is an unlicensed or expired device, the organization enters a 30-day Grace period starting from Nov 3. Overdue restrictions will start Dec 3.
What happens if an existing xLite Organization exceeds the xLite limits?
If any limit is exceeded (e.g., channels >128, or users >10, or sites >10), the functions will be limited immediately. The UI reminder will show to guide the End-user to remove channels, users, or sites to meet the xLite criteria.
What is the impact if some camera licenses in a xLite/xPro Organization expire?
The entire organization enters a 30-day Grace period. It transitions to Overdue and all cloud functions stop after the 30-day Grace period.
What is the solution for expired licenses in a xStd/xPro Organization?
SIs must renew or deploy licenses via the Reseller Portal.
Can an End-User downgrade to xLite if all licenses have expired?
Yes. End-users can downgrade the organization to xLite only when all device licenses in the organization have expired. The downgrade is performed through the End-user Portal banner indicator.
How should an expired Add-on License (e.g., Cloud Storage) be handled?
Since Add-on services stop immediately when their own license expires or when the Main Service enters the Overdue period, the SI must immediately deploy the corresponding add-on license through the Reseller Portal.
How can a customer upgrade from the xLite plan to xStd/xPro?
End-users must request SIs to allocate xStd/xPro license(s) to device(s) via the Reseller Portal. End-users should also ensure they are bound to an SI.
